Ferntree Gully's popular quarry is being turned into a key part of the Victorian State Government's plans to get families fishing in the school holidays. The State Government's Go Fishing Victoria plan has funded and provided recreational fishing licence fees which will see the site get over 400 fish.

Since Ferntree Gully Quarry is close to me, I visit it regularly, and it is always beautiful. The cliff face left over from the quarry is striking, and the bottom of the quarry has been transformed into a lake. The park has been slowly transformed over the years, and earlier this year they opened access to the lake area itself.

Ferntree Gully is a stunning rainforest area 17 kilometres north of Rylstone. There are many walking tracks at Ferntree Gully that take you down into the cool narrow fern-tree studded valley floor, and/or around the top edge of the rocks with amazing views towards the valley and the unusual rock formations on either side.

We enjoyed our visit. It's a cool experience. For GPS, make sure to Google Map to "The Quarry at Carrigan Farms". We came on a Thurs evening (the 3:45 start time) and got there just before 5:00 PM and the check-in line was short, but it seemed to take quite awhile to get waited on with only one person checking people into the place (we had a reservation).
